In accordance with our Adopt-a-Park program with Oregon State Parks, CGKA has organized a work party for the Rowena/Mayer State Park on Saturday April 13 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM If you don't have a lot of time come out for an hour. Every man hour is a big help.

Tasks scheduled will be a general clean up of the park and beach area and a reseeding of the lawns. Park Ranger Andy Wells will be on hand to lead the work party.

Volunteers are advised to bring gloves and rakes. Kites will be a good idea too, as the forecast looks windy.

I just wanted to send out a BIG THANK YOU to:

Pete Wright, Bill Payne, Walter Menge, Vicki Roberts, John Boyels, Jim Skakel and Park Rangers Mike Clough, Jo Ann Sparks and Debbie Mazzrillo who all showed up to the CGKA work party at Rowena yesterday. In preparation for the 2013 season park lawns were mowed, raked and seeded, weeds were whacked and several launch improvements were made.

The CGKA along with the CGWA have entered into an Adopt-a-Park agreement with Oregon State Parks. These all volunteer work parties go a long way in showing our commitment to safety and access at OPRD managed launches like Rowena and Viento.

Next Saturday April 20th from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM, The CGKA is hosting another work party at Viento. This is a very exciting event as the CGKA has been given permission to remove all of the Scotch Broom and blackberry bushes that now choke the launch along with some of the cotton woods on the West side of the beach. Volunteers are advised to bring loppers, rakes and gloves. Food and drinks will be provided. See you there...

The raking was a good warm up for the great session on Saturday!

And big thanks to whoever gave out the great tip to drift launch from the cove.

To anybody that wants to learn about a new spot theses work parties are a great way to educate yourself on an unfamiliar location.

I will be at the work part next weekend too.

That would be Walter Menge. He is one of a rare breed of kite-year-round dry suit heavies...
