The last couple of years with higher snow packs and record wet springs - we lost the sandbar in spring and didn't even see it until really late last year. This year it is halfway through March and the Sandbar is still high and dry. Think we will have it all year?

I know it would never happen, but how cool would it be if some "earth movers" could excavate rows of sand bars and increase the depth of the current play pools. HR could become the "Brazilelnorte"!

Just imagine the coronary "Friends of the River" and other like minded groups would have if you took a backhoe out there and started moving some sand around ..........lol

Spring run off is one factor but more windmills create the biggest challenge for the dams to balance Spring flow since the windmills must be granted a % of time to earn/ generate power from what I've been told.

The CGKA being as proactive as possible with the Port regarding the prolonged use of the Event Site for launching/landing is a kiters best option for combating inconsistent water level.

High water in spring is a function of 2 events.
1. Snow melt. The bigger the snowpack - the higher the flow.
2. Salmon and Steelhead smolts migrating out to the ocean.
That will start next month. They evolved to migrate in the spring because they are
helped by the high flows caused by snow melt.
It's normal for us to have low river levels and a big sandbar in March (no snow melt and no migrating fish).
The high water in spring has nothing to do with windmills.

I thought the BPA got slammed in 2011 for telling the windmills to shut down as the ACOE was trying to figure out how to buffer the extra wind power, spring run-off and salmon runs??? It seems like the windmills created a new load balancing impact...but maybe that is more a July/Aug thing and not Spring?

It is gonna get dredged and then aliens are gonna use what is left to make a pyramid after they compress it into a brick. so it will be disappearing here soon.
