Thu Mar 14, 13 9:17 pm OT-Bike stolen off car rack in downtown HR- ARRESTED!! |
|
|
After riding post canyon today we sat back at double mountain for beer, meanwhile my buddies bike was stolen off his hitch rack within spitting distance of double.
No it wasn't locked- I happened to lock my bike on my car and it was still there. Lesson learned the hard way, thieves are back with the good weather, lock yer bike!
UPDATE- Sunday my buddy's bike was located on Craig's List in the Olympia/Seattle area by a friend of his. They called the thief and set up a buy. They then contacted the police who set up a sting on short notice. Two scum bags were arrested upon furnishing the bike! Way to go justice! (' ')

That's a tough one, really sorry to hear that. Do you have a picture so we can keep an eye out for it? Not locking your bike turns otherwise honest people into criminals.

locks do prevent lazy thieves- totally agree. Here's the photo.
The rear bike tire was flat, so the thief (thieves) had to either run off with it or throw it in a vehicle. Hard to say, the problem with hitch mounts is they are so easy...

Forrest,
Maybe I'm reading this wrong but your post implies that it's not the dirt-bag thief's fault he stole a bike. The low-life piece of crap entitlement-baby can't control himself? He was an honest person right up until he stumbled across an unlocked bike? I don't think so. Whoever stole it has a long history of being a scumbag.
This is just like blaming rape victims for being pretty.
I can't stand thieves. If you want something go out and work for it, don't take other people's hard earned stuff.

This isn't some moral dilemma, and comparing my statement to rape blame is way overboard...
Not locking your bikes is like gambling, playing the odds, that's all. And to be fair, locks don't really stop motivated thieves either.
BTW, Super congrats on getting your bike back. I can't believe those fucking tards posted it up for sale...

yeah, it was overboard, sorry about that. I just don't like making excuses for thieves.
But I do think it is a moral issue. Stealing is wrong and the only time it can be justified is to feed a starving kid when all other legal options have failed. I don't buy any other excuses or opportunities, or mistakes.

This made my day! Score one for the cops! They probably had time to kill since they weren't running around trying to bust people for pot!
I remember when I first moved out to White Salmon from Portland in the late 80's. The guys I was sharing a house with rarely bothered taking their keys out of the ignition or rolling up their windows while parked at the house.

I went into the Tacoma Police Department with ebay pictures of my 9m Naish Helix a few years ago and they told me no way would they help without a serial number. I'm assuming the bike owners in this case had the serial numbers? I now own a super pricey full carbon road bike and have photo'd every number and detail for potential theft. I've also registed it with the Naitional Bike Registry.
