spent the past couple of days down in portland looking for snowkite spots, but the weather has been interesting to say the least. it will be windy up on hood, yet at lower elevations not breeze enough to fly a kite. everywhere we went there was freezing temps and fog, but once you climbed in elevation, the temps would rise and skies would be blue. ended up heading to astoria yesterday to get some pond action. got there right at low tide so when it started flooding it made it difficult to stay upwind. beautiful day out there with temps in the mid forties.

Where exactly do you guys launch from there? Last summer I kited from Lot B, then after drove out to the "ponds" area and looked around.... I couldn't see anywhere that looked like a kite-launchable area... very rough water and small beach facing the mouth of the Columbia on one side, bird watching area on the other...

Normally you launch on the bird watching side and walk out to the end....that's the lagoon side. On the river side it can be better on a low or incoming tide, but you need to be careful as it's a busy channel spitting out into the ocean.

Nice pics Stringy!

Stringy I ASSUMED your pics in Seatle were good because of higher property taxes used to make a deal with God for more unfiltered sunlight. But you brought the magic down here. Nice Pics!

Yeah- I have the next three days off and have the go ahead from the wife to do anything I want. Today I surfed, the next three days Id like to snowkite.
I was looking into Wenatchee and Snowqualmie areas- but not sure about the quality and if those spots are in fact kitable?!
anybody have any great snowkiting spots that are within a five hour drive from Portland in the current conditions?

I guess the question I should ask is: Has anybody got the goods lately?
