Going La Ventana soon via Alaska Air.

I have the following equipment
150 Ignition Board and following kite 9m, 11m, 14m, 17m, Slingshot T3's.
plus harness, wetsuit and float vest.

Is there a bag that will fit a 150cm board. Most of the bags stop short of the 150 cm needed to fit the 150 Ignition Board.
I weight 210 lb.

I am going limit myself to 3 kites. I am thinking of the 9,11,14.

Any luggage suggests are welcome!

Thanks

Anthony

Do you really need a float vest if you weigh 210 lbs!?

try to check it at the curb to save your ass. . In short you will be overweight in your bag. The board is too big. Put all your stuff in a surf bag and sack up and pay the oversize bag fee. Search this site and you will see at least ten topics on this. ship your board. Just shipped a friends board to oahu for 17 dollars and that was priority mail and it arrived 3 days later. Way cheaper than paying oversize overweight fees.!!!

anthony I use a golf bag that is 150 or 155 cm capacity , i can't remember. new they are 100-150 bucks. load it up to about 48 lbs. use your bathroom scale to weigh it. its possible you might not get charged oversize fee if you keep it under 50 lbs, depends on who's at the counter I've found. Carry one of your kites in a backpack- carry on.

I pretty much gave up on trying to avoid the oversize fees. I figure, I only fly somewhere once or twice a year. just depends on how much you want to try and finagle stuff. i don't want to mess with shipping stuff ahead, although if you know someone down there who could receive it, sounds like a good option.

i'd let you borrow mine if you were in the locality..have fun I wish I was goin

Bring your kites I could not imagine the feeling of being on the beach with enough wind for my big kite and its at home because I didn't want to pony up the $20 to get it there. We flew Alaska last year to Maui and just keep it under the 50#s and what ever the height restriction is and you are golden at just $20 each way!
We are heading back to Maui 1/31-2/11 Very Happy If you are not traveling during this time you can use the bag, it will fit up to 180cm or more i just tie back the extra length to keep it under the max height. Have fun in Ventana!

Windance sells a Dakine that fits the 150 well. I did it. BUT I had a hard time going upwind with the ignition 150 @ 200#s. Ditch the big board unless you are looking at downwinders all day. Kites = perfect.

Not sure when your going but when we went last Feb I rode my 6m and 8m the whole trip. You could prob leave the big kites if you need the room in your bag

last time I went in february in fact that last two times in february i went I flew my 9 because all the lightweights are on their 6's with 25-30 knots. way to light for me and a 6 and then two days later I was kiting konas on the south shore with my 14. take all your kites so you can enjoy it all. I am sure bettyboarder does not way a lb over 130 wet(maybe wrong) but at 210 dry you are 220 plus wet. take the big kites and the smaller versions too.

can I add that today was way better than the northwest. It rained sideways in Oahu that is( still very warm) with on shore winds but it was still nicer than back home. Last week was big kites and then the wind arrived again and back to the 9/10's

I travel with the 185cm version of this bag:

http://www.dakine.com/p/kite/kite-bags/sx-bag

DaKine also makes a bag called a 'club wagon' that is listed exactly at 150cm. The wheel setup on the bottom takes up space on the inside of the bag, so you wouldn't be able to fit a 150cm in it. Id suggest taking your board into the shop and putting it in the bag just to make sure.

I like my big bag, has wheels, and fits everything. Since i know Im going to pay the big bag charge, I take it all and even pack my clothes into it. Id rather pay the fee than not have what i want for a sesh. I usually take a directional, a twin, sometimes a skim, 7/9/11, and then all the typical stuff. The cabo airport can be a real pain in the ass, wheels on the bag was a big plus the last time.

Oh ya, if you are getting a car, think about fitting the bag into it and whether or not you need a bigger ride.

Have a great time man.

I agree that the curbside check in works well. 20 bucks tip is better than the oversize fees. We have an Alaska Airlines credit card that gives us a companion fare once a year and one bag free. Worth the annual fee if you use them often. Check the fine print first on the card offer. Also get your wife or partner into kiting, we can then take twice as many kites and move up and down sizes without being on the same one. Maybe travel with a friend in a different weight category? I always carry a 50# weight fish scale with me, has saved me money as usually the gear is heavier going home. If space is an issue put the kites in a "space bag" used for blankets. Its like a giant ziplock baggie then you squeeze the air out. Between 2 people we can travel with 3 twin tips, a surfboard, 5 kites, 3 bars, 2 wetsuits and harnesses, and actually have room for some cloths. And never been hit with any extra fees...knock on wood.
