try putting the kite about 12oclock before signing it back down. When you do this it will give you like 5 sec window to tack your feet around, your riding strapless right!?

Thanks, yes riding strapless. Re your tip thought I was doing that but you never know. Biggest problem at the moment is getting the board to turn 180 after I have come up into the wind. Any tips for making it come around?

carve it up a bit harder or further and just before or as you are switching your feet, pull with your front foot and after you switch push with your new front foot as you dive the kite to finish

What kite and size? Reason I ask is I can do these both directions on 2012 Rally's, but they are a lot harder on 2013 Rally's. 2012's depower at 12 so much better where the 2013's continue to pull. If your kite pulls still when overhead, it will be harder to redirect the board.
If it helps, carve upwind hard with medium speed and take the kite overhead. The second it gets above you, spin the board and then drop the kite fast. If by chance you are late, you can also loop the kite the opposite way to pull you out of the move and save it. This is the next step though.
Good luck.

Thanks Bob. I am riding 2013 Rebels. As I indicated earlier the kite is the least of my problems at the moment ( I am sure it will be later). But at the moment I cannot get the board to spin around. Its not that its a big board its a 5 6 WAM (or maybe 5 . I must be doing something fundamentally wrong as I try to spin the board around???? I think that I am pulling with my front foot and pushing with my back as you are supposed to, but who knows.

Bob re-read you post you seem to indicate that the kite should be depowered when you get it to 12 i.e. its sheeted out all the way??? I thought that you were trying to get some lift at that point to take the weight off the board when you spin it around. After all if you are not on the board when its in the water its very easy to spin it around with your hand.

You dont really need lift, when its at 12 it gives you a small window of freedom do whatever you like, but like anything else in kiting you always have be thinking of what your going to do next before you finish what you currently doing. That mentality will greatly help your efficiency in all aspects of kiting. Hope this helps?

Yes, sheet out. I'll get to it below.
When you head upwind to start the tack, is it a long drawn out thing or a quicker turn upwind? If you are on a surf board, not race board, the quicker the better and here's why.
If you are heading upwind, at the same time, you move the kite to 12. This moving of the kite if the turn is quicker, will create all the lift you need. As I'm carving hard upwind, I'm often sheeting out as the kite reaches the top. Once at the top, there's usually plenty of lift and right at the time is where I switch feet, I do a quick push shove it. If I pull in on the bar, it will pull you off of the board and lake it harder to shove it.
Try this if you have shallow water where you can stand and practice to get used to rotating the board. Do water starts tail first and one you get up, do a quick shove it. You'll miss a bunch, but the board wants to rotate nose first and it will get you used to the move.
Hope this helps,
Bob
