What they really need to do is have multiple disciplines of kiteboarding/kitesurfing as a demonstration event at the Olympics.

Have a Wave, freestyle, slider, and racing classifications. I can guarantee that if they had wave, freestyle, slider events the viewership of wind sports would skyrocket like snowboarding in the Winter Olympics. The problem is racing in wind sports, unless you are really into the sport you don't really watch it... At least with the wave/freestyle/slider/etc. Snowboarders, skiers, wake boarders, kiters, skateboarders, surfers, and action sports fans would all probably tune in to watch it.

thus is the olympics, right?
all you have to do is pay them enough and you can have whatever sport you want...
although i have no idea why kiting in the stalest venue on the planet is a good idea.

Stoked to hear this news. As far as I'm concerned, the less people that kite, the better. This could only have brought more attention to the sport, and more people wanting to do it. Unless you are in the business of kiteboarding, I can't see how more exposure is good for the sport.

Damn it!!
So now you're telling me I have to cancel all my mega big orders for $2000 raceboards and 17m2 race kites!?!?!?!

I must apologize to all or our customers ahead of time.
Now with the olympics off the radar we'll have to just go back stocking these lame assed surfboards, skims twins and kites only as big as 12m2. Rolling Eyes

Heya we need a 30m2 kite for those 1-2mph wind days until the cable park gets built.

Some might go so far as to say "Kiteboarding was Saved".

Yeah, it was starting to get ridiculous, wasn't it? Geez, one of the first benefits of our sport people observed was how compact the gear was to travel with. In comes raceboards and we were back to roof racks and bringing out tools for pre-session setup (giant fins)...did it remind anyone of windsurfing?!?

Have to admit, I did want to see it in the olympics, though. I looked at racing as the gateway drug to get people interested so we'd have a more entertaining kiter-cross or freestyle event in 2020. Kitercross would be extremely entertaining to watch with professional coverage. Look at boardercross in the winter olympics and how it also led to a skiercross event. 4 competitors mixing race and freestyle skills, the winner advances to the next round. Easy to follow, compelling, and the risk of high speed wrecks!
