Been wanting to get into this sport for the last few years. 6'3 210pounds. Snowboard/IronMan Triathlete. Used to fly those power kites in the 80s so I think I could get the steering down ok. so board for me-150cm and over-10-12 meter kite?
In Wenatchee area, some wind on Lake Wenatchee here and there. Lake Chelan. I know Jetty Island pretty good since I grew up in Msvl.
Budget is about 1,200 so any info on good used gear, or a basic lesson in the NC Wa. Area let me know.Thanks. |

I live in Leavenworth and kite Lake Wenatchee all summer. Windy 3-5 days a week and kite on 7-9-12 meter. mostly 9, but lots of seven as well this summer. Dont learn at the Lake, it requires knowledge of kiting first. |

Board width is more important than length. I outweigh you by a bunch and I ride a 137 mostly.
You'll need at least two kites. Sizes will depend on where your riding will mostly be. Don't buy anything until you know more about the sport; preferably get at least one lesson first. |

I didn't know Lake Wenatchee put out like that.
Like Nak said go with a wider board. Think used gear to start but get direction/help/insight from experienced kiteboarders first. That means lessons or a kite mentor but put in the cash and effort upfront to diminish your learning curve.
Watching how-to videos while your practicing helps reinforce the basics etc but be patient with yourself because it takes time to understand the rhythm/timing between riding and flying but once you get that first "moment"......when it all comes together....it's actually a very easy sport to grasp.
For your location.....possibly think about snowkiting first to get the basics down. Small kite, thrasher snowboard, and a barren snowfield can be a good training area to practice launching, landing, safety release and riding upwind. Then tap into the Seattle, Gorge or Bellingham kite scene for strength in numbers for the body dragging time but I cannot convey enough having the intuition/knowledge of how to fly the hell out of that kite before you ever strap anything to your feet is key. Welcome, good luck....oh yeah....wear a helmet ya kook! |

Willing to pay for some intro lessons if your interested.
Looking at a Naish Cult 12 M and a 161 board. Was thinking just a kite and harness since the Ephrata AirPort kicks up some wicked wind and try my snowboard in a few months. |

It's like heroin, son. The first hit's free. After that, it's gonna cost ya....
Don't buy anything unless you demo it first. Save up, take some lessons with Air Padre in South Padre Island, and ur good to go. |
