How to choose the right travel bag size for a surf board? I have a 6.1 surfboard and I'm wondering whether i should go with an exact size or would a bit bigger sizing be better. Currently looking at a travel bag size 6.6. Would the extra half foot create extra play while transporting in an Airplane?

Go with the bigger bag and fill the thing with your other lightweight travel junk like towels, wetsuits, clothes, etc. This will give you extra padding to protect your board and you may end up with less number of bags to travel with on your venture. Keep it under 50 lbs which seems to be a standard for the airlines these day.

When I go to Mex for surfing, all I travel with is my surfboard travel bag stuffed with virtually everything and then a small daypack which is my carry-on. Makes things eazy with my daypack with my personal essentials and then all the other crap in the one big bag which has wheels. I can then motor thru airports and have one hand free to fight off the pickpockets, vendors, taxi drivers, and dumbass tourists.

get a 6 foot bag (I just got a 6'1" tyrant that fits in a 6' dakine daylight deluxe with room), most of the time board bags run a little longer anyways. However I would also mention that the best thing to do is just take your board into your local shop and try putting your board in the bag.

Thank you guys for your help. As I'm planing to use it for car travel as well as Air/Train, it definitely makes sense to go with a bigger bag and fill it up with other stuff, like kites or wetsuits for added protection and over all weight reduction.
