So much progress this summer that I had to look back at this post to remember the frustration. What a difference a month made! Within days after this post and applying some of the advice, I boosted to a new level and I love it. I'm not having trouble with being over powered at all anymore. When the gust hits, I just let it jerk me around, edge hard and haul ass, or turn downwind to steady the board and then carve back up wind. I was at the Event Site Friday in super gusty conditions and just had a blast. I was riding out gusts toe side, which is a big advance for me!

I just love this sport! Thanks for all the tips.

Thumb's Up Thumb's Up Thumb's Up ......and so it begins. Time on the water brother. Congrats!

Once had a volleyball coach tell me "there's pretty much no sport to which you can't apply 'bend your knees' as the best advice."

Tho he didn't know jack about edging and rocker...

Congrats! Thumb's Up

Dude if you are going to fast bring your kite right over the waters surface, the wind is slower there and edge up wind, by pointing your front foot up wind. if you have to, look up wind, your feet follow your head. also maybe think about rigging for the gusts coming through which means when its not gusting you might have to move your kite a little more. that will only make you a better kiter in the end. but either way don't start flying down wind, you will explode. but if you do explode just let go of your bar, this will save you from the potential kite loops you are about to embark, and save you time dragging back to your board. once you get that feeling of really using your body and board to correct your speed, your kite can almost be anywhere, and you can pretty much stop yourself by edging hard against your kite. if you edge hard enough and keep your kite low, your kite will loose all its power and you will stop. and don't worry about all the depower crap, you kite in the gorge its so up and down and you would have to adjust your depower like every 2 secs. Also last thing, board and kite combo matter. if you have a bigger board and its pretty floaty, fly a smaller kite, its all about finding that money combo of kite and board.

Anyways Good Luck, and if you could do us all a favor and wear like some neon when you kite, that would be much appreciated!

Cheers!
