Has anybody ever kited in Bali? Thinking about a trip there from September 20 to October 10. I'm wondering about hotels, rental cars, and kiting conditions. Thanks for any help.

Kited there a few years ago in June for a couple of weeks. We stayed and kited in Sanur. Cheap, decent lodging everywhere. We stayed in an apartment and ate at inexpensive beachside restaurants for most meals. New Cabrinha gear could be rented on the beach for $50/day. Flat water inside and small waves outside the reef. 12m most days. This is the spot for summer wind. Winter is a whole different deal with bigger waves and wind from a different direction. Wonderful people in a culturally unique place to kite. We loved it with plans to go back some day. Good luck!

Once you get to bali a 80$ plane ride will get you to kite heaven, Sumbawa. You can arrange all flights and hotel when you get there. Go to poppies lane II and look for the tubes restaurant. to the left like three stores over in the little travel agent, the sign says "g land". she will
hook you up. Used her three times now she has the best deals. they pick you up from hotel and your on your way. Most important things to bring- sunscreen and power bars. If you wanted to go really cheap there are familys to stay with when you get there and figuare shit out. Iwan is the man at the compass warung, best food and he's a kiter. stay at the aman gati hotel for a few days its really nice and the scooter guys will give you a ride down to nugas, launch your kite a pick you up for cheap. They also rent the scooters, I talked him down to 5$ A DAY. I was there in oct and they said it was the best time for wind . enjoy

Thanks for the beta Surfer- Headed to Sumbawa for the last two weeks in October- what kite sizes do you recommend? I was planning on a 9, 12 and 14... any reason for small kites then?
