Fri Aug 31, 12 8:44 pm Help me choose a wetsuit |

I'm going to go kiting out at Manzanita, Oregon soon and my kite is going to get popped by a seabird about a mile from the beach. When I swim in, what thickness of wetsuit (or drysuit) is best to swim the mile without getting too cold. Also, if you were going to swim that far, would you wear a Camelback? |

Any good 5/4 should do the trick for most people. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

Patagucci? Hrmmm..
I could be wrong, but I don't think suits vary much besides thickness and neoprene type. Any of the major brands would be fine, so don't feel you need to go with some a pretentious luxury suit.
I prefer 'slick' or 'matte' neoprene over the standard type though(someone correct my terminology). water beads off it instead of soaking in. it does catch and tear more easily though.
Some great full suit closeouts around now for $100-$200 so don't think you need to pay $400+
however, if anyone wants to put this in my xmas stocking i won't complain:

If your in the gorge swing by Pro Motion. They have hundreds of suits and awesome customer service. I have seen their truck down at the coast so they will be an excellent resource.

Go to thickness for a coastal suit would be 5/4, A lot of brands out have great suits and are really catching up to the new standard that patagonia put out a few years ago. I've been really impressed with my billabong SG5's as far as stretch, comfort, warmth, and quality has been. I would love to get my hands on a Billabong Solution Zero which is supposedly much lighter and stretchier.
And hell no I wouldn't wear a camelback for a mile long swim, it would probably be about as functional as wearing boardshorts over your wetsuit. _________________ BIP- "YOUR GIRLFRIENDS FAVORITE" |

I just bought a full suit at ProMotion in Hood River. Last years models are discounted. This suit is super-toasty and works great on the coast. It's also super bad ass looking. Go buy one and support your local shop! |
