On-site report from the bolstad team:

Carol competed yesterday in triple overhead waves riding a 5.5m kite. One of the girls was riding a 3.5 it was blowing so hard. 90% of the girls and about 70% of the guys put their straps on as well. There were some huge monsters that rolled in a couple of times that must have been 25 to 30 foot tall.

Carol had a great start to her heat with two good runs on huge waves right in front of the judges but she got crushed on the way out trying to outrun the wave and dropped her kite when she got spun around.

Today was a little more mellow with only head high to double overhead waves. Still very windy with 3.5 through 8m kites out most of the day. Even though it was pretty choppy most everyone took the straps off today (including carol). Carol was up against Kirsty Jones today and rode pretty well through the entire heat with two really good runs on nice waves.

One-eye is a very fast moving wave both towards the beach and how it closes out down the line. All of the riders were having to go extremely fast keep in the critical part of the wave. The reef was also exposed in a few places early in the day.

Meeting some nice people and having lots of fun. Seeing some awesome riding as well. Pics in a day or two.

Tony

Thanks for finding that Nicole!

I've got the continuation of her first run on my camera which they cut off at 5:32 something. I'll try to edit it down and post it up in a few days.

Carol was a little disappointed with her heat the first day but I don't think she did too bad for not having ridden any waves since mid June and only having a few hours practice time on Thursday before the event on a rental board since ours didn't arrive until the next day.

Things went much better today and she had a lot of fun in her heat with Kirsty. Still more to learn about this wave!

We're going to get on the water around 8 tomorrow morning and ride for a couple of hours before the comp starts. Should be fun!

They are down to the top 4 tomorrow. Well worth watching as these people are flying down the waves and shreading it. Wind is very off shore so they are really moving down the line.
There's several breaks here so Tony and I caught the far out one today (about a mile out). It was running bigger than the comp One Eye wave today.

Thanks for all the awesome support. These waves a huge, fast, big off shore wind with a nasty reef in lots of places. Really challenging conditions.

You killed it Carol! I mean, you were up against a girl named Ninja... I know it's pronounced Neenyah, but she looks a bit like a Ninja out there to me. That wave was MACKING! Nice work representing the NW!
