Really depends on the water temp and the air temp and the water sport you are participating in at the time. I have a 4/3 mm Oneill that is really just a 3 mm that I use almost all the time during summer for kiting and surfing since the air temps are in the 50 to upper 60 range and the water is in the 50 to 60 range.
During winter I use a 5/4 if the air temps are below 50 and the water is usually in the low 50 to upper 40 range.
Also, kiting and SUP surfing you can get away with a lot less neopreme than if you are short board surfing or body surfing where you are always submerged in the water. By the way, I never where booties while kiting or SUP surfing in the summer months or on any warm day. |
