Tue Aug 07, 12 6:53 pm Floras Lake question |
|
|
Headed down to Floras Lake for a few days. I have only been there once before. I can't remember if it is big enough to take a wave runner down there. Are they even allowed on that lake? Is it even big enough? Or should I just stick to kite gear and SUP gear? |

The place that does lessons on floras lake does jet ski support, so I think a jet ski should be fine. _________________ Switch Nitro II (8m, 10m, 12m)

Yes it is big enough. If you have a wave runner etc you can let someone ride way down wind out of the flats and the crowd and have a great time on the entire lake. Then you can go pick them up and bring them back to the top. there is a little ramp and a path through the weeds out to the lake. I always see at least one other wave runner on the lake other than Will and Andy's. Bring everything as that allows the most fun. boice cope is nice but if you want a little drier weather and a hot tub and pool go to the KOA which is only about five minutes south on the highway. We have been staying there as it is drier during the late evening and morning. IF you camp on the lake beware of the marine layer which causes the trees to rain down on you and you will think it is raining all night until you step out in the morning and realize its dry every place other than under the trees on the front row. just my two cents. Have a killer time, Blake |

Thanks a lot for the info! The last time we went - we stayed at Cape Blanco state park. It was nice - but it was a bit of a drive everyday for kiting. |

If boice cope is full or you want a pool or hot tub which I like after a great day of kiting try the Koa. Super private camp spots and no one goes there. 80% of campers are full hook ups and on the other side of the camp ground. Also a train ride at night for kids and pancake breakfasts every morning if you dont want to cook. Only takes me about 7 min to get to the lake from camp. I you want a nice meal and great desert go to the crazy Norwegian in port orford only 15 min away:-). Have fun super jealous. Going to make a day trip next week down there if the wind continues:-)!! |

i second the KOA. its really close to the lake but is out of the wind. The additional amenities, IE hot tub/store/etc are not going to knock your socks off but are very nice to have around. |

so far we are just camping on the lake. We got a good spot. I checked out the KOA, and it is nice also. But it is great to have our waverunner in the water and our SUPs ready to go. We just shuttle kite gear and kids with the waverunner so that I don't have to hike across the sand. family plays on waverunner while I kite. Thanks for the tips all! |

That sounds like the perfect set up. If I had a Waverunner I would do the same. How was the kiting today??? |

Rolled out of tent, grabbed gear and shuttled it over to our beach area on the waverunner behind the tree by 10 am both mornings. Kited till I got hungry. Took waverunner back for lunch at tent. Just left all gear on beach. Waverunnhurer back out to kite. Thursday 9 meter morning and 12 meter afternoon. Friday - 9 meter all day. If you were really motivated on Friday - you could have kited from sunrise to sunset. I kited from 10-4 with a break for lunch. Family would hang out on wind protected beach behind the tree in the afternoons. Overall - a great camping and kite trip. Thanks for the great info all you Floras lake veterans! |
