PostTue Aug 07, 12 8:22 pm    GoPro kite mount? Reply with quote

Just picked up a GoPro 2 and would like to pick up a kite mount. Anyone know where I can find one? 2nd Wind is out of them. Any other suggestions on must have mounts for kiting? Any general tips on using the GoPro while kiting? Has anyone tried the mount that attaches to your TT via the fin screws? Anyway way not to look like a "tool" when you have the camera mounted to the top of your helmet?

this works pretty well but I think a newer better one will be coming out soon.

also you can you use the head strap around one of your struts to get a really high angle that looks pretty cool. just make sure to maybe put some rice in your case and rubber band it shut. I broke the latch on mine open on some rocks kayaking and it fell out into the river.

hey check with pepi again tomorrow.
I had a friend headed to HR to deliver some to the shop.
also check if pepi has the fin mount. I designed the fin mount base to hold the camera firmly by attaching to the fin holes on your twintip.
btw the new is still being tooled so it won't be available until probably September.

I have a question about these. I watched the video on their site and it seems to me that the mount would come off the lines pretty easy since it doesn't actually close around a line at any point.

I get that if the lines stay taught while you are riding that there's no risk of it coming off but what about when I'm learning new tricks and the lines slack occasionally or the kite hits the water frequently? Has anyone noticed any issues with the mount releasing or partial releasing under those conditions?

this is a valid question and concern.
months ago, i developed a sloution to work with the current line mounts.
here is a shot I grabbed off camrig's FB page.
this is the new mount plug.
its made of a soft rubber that fits into the fingers.
install your kiteline first and then insert the plug. it basically fills the void between the line manager fingers.
the mount plug serve 3 purposes.
it acts as a leash by preventing your lines from coming off in the event of loss of tension
it prevents rear line from snagging when rear lines experience excessive line slack.
and it keeps slight tension on the line so that you can now slide the mount farther away from you to get a different perspective (front line flagging has worked well even with the slight fit with the plugs)

this is currently being tooled as well so expect to see them available maybe later this month.

Ah ok. I figure you need to use a leash around the line anyway just to be safe so I'm not worried about losing it. It would just be a pain to have to stop the session and fix the mount.

Any suggestions on how to prevent the lense from fogging up? I used my GoPro for the first time today and it took great video for about 30 min but then started to fog up after that. Got worse as the day went on.

You need to do two things to help avoid the fogging:

1) Add these to your camera - http://gopro.com/camera-accessories/anti-fog-inserts/
- These are reusable by drying them out in the toaster oven and then storing them in a dry location

2) This can be a bit of voodoo, but it seems to help for me - Turn your camera on before you enter the water to allow it to warm up and warm up the casing before entering the water and then letting it soak in the water to cool down slowly when you first enter the water.

Adding the 'AntiFog Inserts' is what will really do the job.

Thanks. I picked one up yesterday and it worked great for pictures, although, I made a rookie move and attached it upside down but it still made for some pretty cool pix. I also picked up a WiFi backpack + remote, which is the best thing ever. I tried out shooting video with the kite mount today and found it to be really shaky. Any tips on stabilizing it? Are you going to carry the Strut/bladder mount?
