Jones has been going every afternoon since our Oregon summer finally started. Today should be no different. My guess is that there will be at least 5-10 other kiters out there by 3 pm. Jones generally starts later than the gorge - but goes until dark and sometimes after dark.

The Gorge has been windy day and night for about a week now. Forecast is for this crazyness to continue for at least another four days! Bring your 6m...

Is it really blowing 6m? I need to get out, but don't have anything smaller than a 10.

10 should be fine. I was on my 8 last night and a bit under powered in nuke alley and struggled to get back with the incoming tide and dying wind.

A cloud cover rolled in for a bit and killed the wind but then it picked back up.

Depends on time of day. Bams is right it's be booming all week in da Gorge and evening sessions have been ranging from 8m to 14m depending on board choice etc...etc.

I was asking specifically about Jones, but thanks for the 411 on HR as well.

John - Thanks for thinking of me, but I'm afraid 5m might be a bit small for my needs. I'm 215lbs, and would rarely be able to actually use a 5m.

Yesterday we rode an 8/9m kites at the Jones ponds for about 1.5 hours until it started dying down close to 8. It usually doesn't die down like that but the clouds from the coast were rolling in.

Jones should go off late today, and by my est. it will be 11-12m kites, maybe 14m, because the clouds JUST burned off over the Kelso region about 1 pm. Now the sun is beaming down good, though, and the clouds will still be over the coast, so the thermal gradient will build very fast.

I've spent several days lately at JB and it for sure has the best beach in the entire PNW! Nothing but sand, sand and more sand - absolutely zero rocks of any kind - just beautiful sand in the water and on the shoreline.

If you have 4WD, you can drive onto the beach and park very near the launch site - sweet!

JB is the perfect beginner spot with shallow water and lots of space downwind. Also a perfect spot for the family with kids!

As for camping, Clatskanie City Park is the place to be. $5 per night with restrooms, hot showers, swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball court and plenty of grass. Plus walk to several restaurants, grocery stores and coffee shops. Where else can you find that for $5? ($10 nightly for elec/water hook-up).

Jones Beach/Clatskanie is a true gem!
