Dear aspiring kiteboarder:
Learn how to bodydrag (that's the $450 lesson when you don't loose your board... read on if you'd like the science behind this lesson).
I know how much you love to try to kite around in the washed out ponds. I know that despite everyone telling you lies like, "the water is too high" and "its not safe for beginners when the wind is crap and the sandbar is washed out", that you drove all the way from Portland and wouldn't want to not kite when there are millions of people out there making it look so easy. I know you can't understand why despite all of the pulling the bar to power up the kite, you just can't get it to leave the hands of the person launching you, backstalling and crashing onto the head of the person who just landed downwind of you. I understand why you think after 3 or 4 failed launches that its still a good idea for you to go out. I know its hard being a beginner.
But after spending more than $1500 buying all of this fancy gear, perhaps it would be prudent to learn how to body drag upwind to rescue your own board? Or practice body dragging upwind before you take your board out. I can see the look of suprise and helplessness as you see your board floating upwind away from you, realizing that the unthinkable has happened! Its so close, maybe even within a few feet as you desperatly try to walk upwind in chest deep water, just barely missing it again and again. Then, 20 minutes later as you fatigue and realize its gone, you start waving your hands around to whoever pays attention to you, signaling them to rescue the board for you.
We've all been there. We've all done that. We all know what its like. But take some responsibilty and wait until the water goes down or learn how to body drag. Please. Save yourself the $450 on a new board. Thank you. _________________ JHB |

Or, at least know how to swim across rather than against currents. |

One of my favorites to watch.
Adding one more to the pile.....¨Dude, if you cannot water relaunch your kite you have no business being in water where you cannot touch bottom.¨ I respect you´re trying to learn but if something as simple as relaunching your kite seems to be a monumental task of what line to pull etc you have no clue to the shit show you´re creating for multiple people. Get your ass back to the Sandbar and practice launching. |
