Actually, the Gorge is a great place to learn how to kite. You will be well prepared for adversity.

And Kooks need not apply.

+1!

Kite technology has taken a bite out of the gusty gorge. If you live in the PNW I cannot think of a better place to learn. (shops, people, vibe, access, events) If you have the cash....and time......SPI or Floras Lake is quite choice to learn as well but think of the Gorge as your learning curve to prepare you for the ocean plus you get the added benefit that someday when you're finally competent and travel to a warm water beach and it's blowing 35 like a steady fan and everyone is freaking out how "mucho viento de locos!" you'll be rigging your 8M with a smile thinking to yourself.."what a bunch of pussies."

I second that. If you can kite the Gorge, you can kite pretty much anywhere else!

It is a great place to learn, but you got to go about it with a great deal of respect for the Mighty River and it's Winds. If you don't, it will smack you upside the head, like it did and still does each and everyone of us every once and a while, and remind you who's the real Boss around here!
