We need a guy like you here in Oregon to stop the runaway PERS train. Flame away unionites. I just wonder how many of you would still be a member if your dues weren't mandatory.

Take a look at who is riding the PERS gravy train:

I would be!!

I have this policy about asking...if you ask for it ....then I have to let you have it!!

Isn't it interesting Hein that the rise of the middle class paralleled the rise of unions? Oh yes that terrible middle class. Those publically educated nurses, teachers, engineers, machinists, mechanics, carpenters, mid-level managers. They are the scum of the earth with their discretionary income and ability to own their own homes and take their kids on vacation once a year. Have you ever lived near these people? Scum I say!!

I must admit I don't know you but let me guess? Are you a card carrying Republican business owner? Would you rather have all the workers of our great country toil for low wages while the rich business owners benefit from their backs? What we really need is a good old fashion two class society! Check me if I am wrong? You would benefit if we could go back to a two class society?

Walmart is a good example. That corp has taken a strong stance against workers bargaining for a living wage and sure enough most of them qualify for some kind of federal or state assistance because they don't pay a living wage. Its called poverty. Ever been there? It's not fun. The relative decline of unions over the past 35 years has mirrored a decline in the middle class’s share of national income. It is also true that at the time when most Americans belonged to a union — a period of time between the 1940′s and 1950′s — income inequality in the U.S. was at its lowest point in the history of the country. So I must assume if you are against unions you are for income inequality? Do we have a pattern going here?

How about children? Would you rather see them working in dirty unsafe factories instead of wasting their time learning in schools? Union organizing and child labor reform were often intertwined in U.S. history, with organization’s like the National Consumers League and the National Child Labor Committee working together in the early 20th century to ban child labor. The very first American Federation of Labor (AFL) national convention passed a resolution calling on states to ban children under 14 from all gainful employment in 1881, and soon after states across the country adopted similar recommendations, leading up to the 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act which regulated child labor on the federal level for the first time.

If you are a business owner you probably have experienced cash flow challenges? If one of your clients fail to pay you on time you have just experienced what the working poor deal with every week. Their employer isn't paying a fair living wage and that isn't fun. Is it ok with you that women and minorities are paid a lower wage for the same work as white men? Unions bargained for fairness across genders. How dare they do that...scum!

How about weekends? Spending a little time with your loved ones after a long week working seems like a reasonable consideration? Even the ultra-conservative Mises Institute notes that before 1870, the average workweek for most Americans was 61 hours. Yet in the late nineteenth century and the twentieth century, labor unions engaged in massive strikes in order to demand shorter workweeks so that Americans could be home with their loved ones instead of constantly toiling for their employers with no leisure time. Big business fought that long and hard. How dare unions take money out of the business owners pocket?

Safety in the work place? Unions fought hard for safer conditions. You shouldn't have to risk your life at an unsafe job just because the business owner is too greedy to guard machines. And since you are flag waving Walker supporter I still must assume you are Republican? Republicans always have had a problem with that whole sharing thing that we were supposed to learn in kindergarden. But wait ...if the Republicans had their way that whole free public education would go away too. That way their privately educated children could easily compete with non educated children from the wrong side of the track.

Enough...your turn.

I switched to PER3 in Washington State in '94 just for the simple reason that I knew the day was coming when states would start to default on this responsibility. Now I am at least %75 insulated from the mess. Washington State DRS is in much shape than other states. But still, ya never know.

There's even a glimmer of hope for California:

Great to see Public Employee Union excess being reeled in.
