Fri May 25, 12 3:22 pm Chicken loops? |

Hi, I'm knew to kiteboarding and I have a control bar that came with both a harness line and a chicken loop. Neither of them has a release, so I was looking to replace one. What's the difference between them? Is one better than the other?
Thanks! |

When you say "neither of them has a release" you probably mean safety release! If thats the case I wouldn't mess around with such out-dated gear. Follow Kodiak's suggestion and "get a new bar". It just might save your ass! Especially if you're a beginner, you need to be able to re-lease/ eject from your bar if shit hits the fan or if a Barge has a hard on for you!! _________________ SAY WHAT YOU MEAN, MEAN WHAT YOU SAY |

Probably need a newer kite too. That setup sounds obsolete and dangerous. |

Go ahead and post pictures of what you have. Like everyone else said, it's probably outdated dangerous stuff. Ebay? Kiteboarding went through revolutionary changes in 2006/2007. Prior to that, people died on a regular basis in this sport. Why? Because of gear like you're talking about. My guess is your bar is from around 2000 or so. Most likely the kite is too. Bad stuff.
Buying gear when you don't know what you're doing is a huge mistake. There's a lot of good used gear to be had, but there's even more absolute crap that will kill you. First, study up on the sport. www.kitesurfingschool.org or http://thekiteboarderschool.com/ is a good start. Learn about the wind window, the basic gear, etc. Then get a trainer kite with a DVD. (A good one from a reputable kiteboarding company.) Learn the DVD cold. Fly the trainer. When you can fly it VERY comfortably without having to stare at the kite all the time, then you're ready for your first lesson. After that, you'll be ready to start researching what gear too buy. Go in to your local kiteboarding shop and let them help guide you to the right choices.
Don't even think about flying that gear you have now. You have no idea just how easy you could end up dead. |
