CGKA PRESS RELEASE

CGWA/CGKA ROWENA BEACH WORK PARTY SATURDAY MAY 26th 2012

CGWA and CGKA have banded together and entered into the Oregon State Parks Adopt-A-Park program for Rowena Beach (East Mayer.)

As a result, a Spring work party has been scheduled for this Saturday May 26th, from 9:00 a.m. -- 1:00 p.m.. Volunteers from both the CGWA, CGKA and the community at large will meet with park staff at the Rowena pay and park kiosk at 9:00 a.m.. Work will include liter removal, weeding, blackberry warfare, raking debris and sanding and painting park benches.

Volunteers should bring work gloves, rakes, shovels, hand saws, loppers, weeding tools etc. Volunteers are not allowed to use gas powered tools on park property so please don't bring them. Electric sanders are OK.

Rowena is a perfect near East Oregon kite launch that has great access, parking, facilities, plenty of space and ripping swell. Although there are some problems with the launch, the CGWA and CGKA are working together with Oregon State Parks to make the launch safer and more user friendly for both user groups. This work party is the first step toward that goal. See you there and be sure and bring your sails and kites for the post work party session.

The CGWA and the CGKA would also like to thank Rosaures Supermarkets in Hood River for their generous support of this work party.

If you have any questions please contact Jim at

This is a great opportunity, there's a lot of potential for this to be a very user friendly site. I'll be there!

Nice work! Thumb's Up

I think that a lot of intermediate and advanced kiters will truly reap the rewards from a freshly prepped kite launch at Rowena.
I think we all know this will always remain as an intermediate/advanced launch, but that is okay. Evening sessions for the 9-5'ers will definitely get a boost out of this launch as the winds always seem to blow past dark during the summer.
And, as a member of the 200lb club, I still find that I have never had to put up anything bigger than a 9m at Rowena due to the stronger winds and currents.

Please make sure to thank Jim either if you help out on Saturday, or just see him at the beach. Jim and Greg (CGWA Exec Dir) both worked hard to make this joint launch improvement project happen.

Great Job guys!!
