I´m about to take a kitesurfing road trip through the Oregon coast this summer.
Will try to visit as many kite spots as possible, but would be great to get some information about different kite spots. So it would be great if you could give me information about your own local spot =)
Aspects that I find useful is for instance if the water is flat, choppy or/and if there are waves. Is it beginner friendly? Good launch and landing area? Sand bottom, stones in the water? Which wind directions that work well. Possibilities to camp near the spot, wildlife etc...

All you can come up with is appreciated =)

If you want flatwater, josephine young memorial park after passing lincoln city was a spot I hit on a similar trek down the coast. If you catch the right tide, the butter is sogood.

I rode on a northerly, but i'm guessing just about any wind direction would work...

very beginner friendly, but the reach can be short if the tide is low (I was there long enough to see the tide change)...

I've never been to Siletz Bay but it is a popular bird-watching area. Just wondering if anyone has ever encountered hostile bird-watchers who might frown on kiters "terrorizing" birds.

Also, Josephine Young Memorial Park is shown as a cemetery here. Is it OK to rig and launch in a cemetery!?

Another site says "Josephine Young Memorial Wayside offers only 2-3 parking spots in a tight area with no room to turn around." True?

True their are only two, maybe three parking spots, but the park is very small and in a neighborhood, so parking shouldn't really be a problem, you can find it on a street somewhere in the unlikely event that one of the parking spots isn't available. The park is just an access point for the huge beach beyond it. Turning around was not a problem for me, you can back up a few dozen feet to turn around if both parking spots are taken.

I saw no signs that it was a cemetary, I don't think that it correct, and besides the beach beyond the park is where you rig.

I discovered the place because one kite was out when I drove by on the highway, so I explored and found the park, and the kiter's car was the only car there. It was a gem, the area is great and the wind and butter were super fun. Ended up digging shrimp for salmon bait after the session with a couple local kids who were going fishing the next day.

So, is it OK to go kiteboarding in a National Wildlife Refuge?

I have kited there a couple of times. It is a nice little spot. "Little" is the operative word here. Even when the tide is in, there is not a ton of room. When the tide is out - you will really get good at transitions. If there were more than 3 or 4 kiters there - it would be pretty crowded. Luckily - there are normally zero kiters there. I think that 3 or 4 kiters over a whole weekend has less impact than all the clammers, beach combers and fishermen. Watch out for the green mud - it is super slippery and you can participate in the new up and coming sport of mud kiting..........
