I've got a couple of friends in different parts of the country both wanting to learn about kiting. They are way too far from me to pay me in beer for my wisdom, so I'd like to at least send 'em a video that does a GOOD job of introducing them to the sport.

The qualities of the video should be:

a) Free

b) Online

c) Good

Any suggestions?

If you go to youtube and type in learn to kiteboard 1,330 results pop up.

That should be a good place to start.

Yep, but you may have to eliminate "good" from the categories. Not that you won't find any good videos on YouTube, but its a lot more miss than hit.

I'd recommend they get the Progression Beginner DVD... yes, its not on-line, and its not free, but its a very well put together DVD. Being willing to pay $35 to get educated about the sport is a pretty good litmus test as to whether or not they are really serious about learning how to kite safely. And they'll still need lessons... or they could just take their i-phone to the beach ☠☠☠!

Agreed. The BEST things in life are Not always FREE! The Progression series is one of the best teaching DVDs out there. Well worth every $. If they have an iPhone, they'll love the KITESURF INSTRUCTOR app. It's only a few $ and provides very detailed easy to understand explanation and breakdown of each move and clear sweet videos. And it was created by local NW riders, how sweet is that!!

A classic and the best all time instructional. Needs to be digitally remastered.

Alright, I get it. To get the best you have to pay etc etc etc.

The question remains: What's the best Free Online training video? Is there one?

That's all I'm asking.

http://kite-skills.com/index.php?option=com_seyret&Itemid=54 this is the closest I know of that meets your OP

http://www.iksurfmag.com has good instructional videos. Not focused on the beginner, but, worth watching/reading to pick up kite boarding info.

Not a video but good for understanding the basic of the wind window

There are pieces of the Progression videos on Youtube. Just put in key words like "Progression" "Beginner" "kiteboarding" etc........ And you can piece together most of the first Progression beginner DVD. It should give your friends a good idea of what they are getting into.
