Tue Mar 27, 12 8:38 am nsi straps and pad question? |
|
|
looking for suggestions for the proper chemical to remove the nsi pads from mt webber surftech board.i want to make it strapless but i am having a really hard time removing the back pad with the screw inserts, and dont want to just try ripping it off the board.that sucker is on there!any thoughts on a chemical that will release the glues contact and not harm the epoxy finish of the board.if you have a solution to this problem id really appreciate your input, cheers doug. |

The insert section of the NSI pad uses a 3M Super Bonding adhesive. It's the same stuff Elwood Blues used on the Good Ol' Boys gas peddle.
To get it un-stuck carefully heat it with a blow dryer. I say carefully because you don't want to use to much heat and damage the board. Remove all of the pad as possible then use a piece of dental floss or similar to"saw" underneath the remaining pad. As the pad separates from the deck, gently pry it off with a putty knife lubricated with cooking oil. This will take time, but if you try and remove that super sticky part by just pulling it up, you will likely take some fiberglass with it.
Good luck and here's some inspo: http://vimeo.com/38660120 |

I have used denatured alcohol to break the bond. goo gone will help with that nasty adhesive residue once the padz are off. _________________ www.jimstringfellow.com |

why not just take the straps off and leave the pads to make it "strapless"?
Or does it have to be padless too? |

Because he got half way through the project and got seriously stuck. Otherwise that would have been the way to go. |
