Should be there around 2. 60 degrees and 20 mph east. Might be fun?

I thought about it. I was leary of doing the 2 hour drive and getting there just as the wind decided to drop. The wind looked great this morning. I decided to go skiing instead. If you went - how was it?

By the time I made it to the ponds 2 kiters were loading their gear in their vehicles. "Wind is dying. We were out on 10s all morning." I walked out to see a husband and wife still kiting. She just finished an awesome 7 session and the husband was struggling to stay up wind. Ponds were almost full and I figured I would give the 14 a try, just because I came so far. By the time I launched the wind totally shut down letting my kite fall in the water. Frustration was setting in and I was not happy. After peeling out of my wet wetsuit and trying rolll up my wet sandy kite I was in a serious bad mood. Loaded up and ready to go I figured I would walk out and make sure I didn't leave anything behind. I was blown away, litreraly. The east wind was gone and a 20 plus south wind was blasting the lagoon. Really? Back to the car, back in the suit, pump up a 10 and an hour after getting there I was getting a sweet session all by myself! It started off with some holes and a bit gusty but filled in nice. After an hour plus it picked up to where I felt like I was going to be blown up onto the bunker. Time to load up. What a roller coaster of emotions. I wil post a few pictures when I get home.

Yeah - I checked the wind charts when I got home from skiing. I saw that shift on the chart. Pretty wild. That is great you got a session in today after that big drive!

Really, you can ride Lot D in a South? I know it has to be full high tide but, what is the angle then, out into river?
thanks

Who knew! At high tide plenty of room to ride. Wind is straight on shores and your riding parallel to the road heading toward the ocean. The pictures are taken looking west toward the coast.

I'm embarrassed to ask but I'm a newbie. What do you mean by "the ponds?" I want to ride, too. Is it the North Oregon coast by Astoria, but the inland side of the peninsula?

Ponds = Fort Stevens parking lot D. Parking lot D is marked on the map on this page: http://www.nwkite.com/guides/sunset_beach/ After you park if you face the outhouse it's through the trees to your right. You kite in the little bay area there. At high tide it's "deep water" and at low I'm told you can walk across the bay (like waist deep).
It was pretty cold. I only had 2 mil gloves and a helmet so I will need to get thicker gloves and a hood before I go out again. My 5/4 wetsuit and 3mil boots did pretty well though. Just don't spend too much time in the drink.
