Nice little vid of Ventura local Dane Reynolds surfing the local breaks.

Link

As the surfing punts get more hang time, and kiters get better at surfing the waves, it seems the two have not looked so similar.. The shots of Dane surfing @ the Ventura pier was the same day that kite in the vid went blowing down the beach at Ventura point less than 1 mile away. Both surfing & kiting were good that day.

Dane is amazing with his wave riding skills.

His last wave in the video is a perfect example of how world class surfers can take a shitty wave and turn it into a spectacular ride. What is basically closed-out junk surf for the average surfer (the guy that took off in front of Dane and got left behind) is a great ride for Dane as he blows by the snake and punts a huge air.
Dane and surfers of similar ability, which there are very few, seem to excel in almost closed-out conditions and link sections togethor with barrels, airs and huge hacks. The rest of us walk away from surf sessions like that with basically a couple of drops and then get blown of the tail as the wave reels down the line.

At least with a kite in my hands I can be somewhat resiliant to closed-outs!!

For the dude whose kite blew away, learn to put some sand on it, dumbass...

Wow. I guess that's what tens of thousands of hours on the water can eventually look like. Fun to watch.

For the rest of us mortals, its gonna take some wind power for us to get that much riding time!
