Finally had a chance to kite the river estuary in Seaside on Saturday. When I showed up around 2 there were three or four kiters riding the waves just off the beach. By the time I rigged up they were gone and conditions were insane. 15 to 40 wind destroyed my 6 rpm and I misread the tide chart ( high tide for seaside is an hour earlier than high tide for short sands) so shortly after I started riding I landed on the Ghearhart side of the bay and the current was ripping out to sea. The gust and lulls became worse. The wind was more south than southwest which was blocked by the sand bluffs. I finally limped back to the lookout off of N Holiday, and since I launched from the end of Franklin( nice sand, wide open) I had to borrow a phone from some constrution workers and call for ride back. The walk of shame. It was fun getting wet but I wish conditions were better. Lessons learned. 1 ride on incoming tide. 2 west winds would be better. At high tide there is lots of flat water riding and shallow water, with easy access into the ocean. Sunday would have been better conditions but for some of us we take what we can get. I will be back! |

We rode the river mouth sat. Wind was almost due west. 10m conditions when we showed up then picked up to 6-8m when I was about ready to launch, of course. Pretty good session except for my buddy lost his Slingshot Ignition... went out thru the blast zone at max ebb. (If anyone finds the board please call the numba) _________________ Haole |

I stayed out after you guys left. The board kept got pushed back in to the rivermouth twice but was always in the center of the rip which was strong due to the swell size. Probably 8-10kts. I couldn't grab it or would have lost my board. I'm sure it washed up on a beach somewhere, maybe down in the cove. I searched last night too. |

Yeah it was hairy trying to grab that board with the breakers heading for me. I got rolled one time and popped back up thank God my kite was still in the air. Definitely not the place you want to lose your board. I bet the board turns up before long...
Looking forward to sunny NWsterly coast sessions this summer!!!! _________________ Haole |

A beachcomber found it yesterday. All the way inside the rivermouth stranded on a sandbar island. She took it to Cleanline and Leon knows, and can sleep well now |

Hi Forum,
Looks like Sunday will be windy. Low tide is at 11am and hi is at 3pm. At what point can you sail the estuary on 12th in Seaside, 1pm?
SW would be a good direction for this I think.
From NOAA:
Sun...SW wind 20 to 25 kt with gusts to 30 kt. Wind waves 7 ft. W swell 13 ft. Showers and a slight chance of tstms.
Never been there before so, any tips would be great.
