I just never tire of sharing the joys of simple flight. Hope to get a lot more people up and floating around Hood River this summer.
Enjoy a short flight from Crystal Mountain last weekend...

Nice video - looks fun.
So Crystal ski resort lets you up there with all that gear and they do not have any issues with safety or liability or getting tangled in their lift towers? Is it that way with all ski resorts or just Crystal? Would they let people up there to go snow kiting? I am just curious. Ski resorts seem to be very anal about what they let you do within their ski boundary because of liability issues........... |

Crystal has one of the most progressive attitudes on paragliding and speed flying in the US. The Ski Patrol has gone out of its way to see if this can work... and, it is working out well. They require a paragliding rating to fly, which means that we have our own third party insurance. They also make you sign a very well written waiver...
In regards to snow kiting, there is not much inbounds that would work. But, the Silver Basin area is a short hike out and I am pretty sure they will allow you to lift access it. Let me ask around on that point this weekend and snap some shots of the potential riding area. I have not kited back there yet, but will take a kite and check it out this weekend onSunday if the wind kicks in.

Wow - thanks a lot for the info! That is really impressive on Crystal Mountain's part. And thanks for checking out the snowkite angle. I am heading out to Idaho for my first shot at it next week. It would be nice to find a closer option.......
BTW - your videos are always inspiring. I have never even considered paragliding - after watching your videos.......... |
