Just got back from a hassle free trip to La Ventana. I found a great rental car company in Cabo that will give you a complete quote including liability insurance prior to leaving on your trip. Everything was straight forward with no additional charges. They put your name on a sign board at the curb so as soon as you dodge your way around all the time share sharks you jump in a shuttle and you are on your way. I rented a VW GOL for $30 a day including liability insurance. Car was new condition and drove great.
I also recommend signing up for the the American Express extended car coverage which costs about $20 per rental period up to 42 days. You will be covered for up to 75k loss/damage with zero deductible.
