I'm hitting La Ventana in January and won't have kited since late October. I want to kite every day all day for seven days in a row without any downtime due to sore muscles, etc. Any ideas on training routines that are specific to kiting endurance?

Kiting!! Take one hour off after each three hour session though - unless it's really good

Or get a masseuse to stretch you. Works wonders. Rick James does it.

You know the answer....P90X.
I started August 1 and finished the last week of October.
Went to Maui on the 17th of October and kited everyday for 10 days, from 11am to 5pm and got a 13 mile hike in at the top of Halliauckaula.
If you want to be the first one out and the last one off the water, there is no substitution for pushing your personal limits with Tony Horton and Crew and P90X.
All you really need is motivation, a great trainer and the recovery drink.
All I have to say is BRING IT!

Yes you can be one of the baddest mutha fuckers of all time - a $600.00 value for 3 monthly payments of $39.95 (+$19.95 s&h)

Look up either Tony Robbins or Robin Williams back in his cocaine days... those guys will keep ya riding for days - physical training be damned.

Try to avoid Fiona Apple or Dr. Ruth... they don't go well with Mexico or kitesurfing.

Use common sense. Ride 'till it hurts then go get some tequila. For Christ's sake... you're only there for seven days. You'll have plenty of cold wet months to recover.

I give out bad advice.

I'm currently training to avoid neck surgery. It's been a battle as I've had to give up weight lifting and mountain biking and playing pick up basketball.

Here's what I've found out about being late forties. My body is still in able to tolerate non impact sports like: swimming, stationary bike, and tennis. I do an occasional Yoga class and sit in the hot tub daily for at least a 30 mins. If I can get in a hot tub I notice my Ibuprofin starts getting attractive.

Swimming is a lot more difficult than people think. If you kite and you are in a self rescue and you can swim well you're gonna be happier. If you plan on surfing then the lap swimming is money.

I've got to tell ya the stationary bike has been a real helper. Get a stationary bike stand and peddle a couple or 4 10min spins every other day and you'll gain cardio right away.

Swim some laps and get comfy in water so you can paddle out and surf.

Very Happy

Flipper, get started immediately at a local Crossfit Gym. It's very similar to p90x but it will come with a coach to motivate you toward your goal. You're really going to need to bust out some hard work since you have less than 6 weeks.

P90X is great, doubled my time on the water. I'm in my last week, my wife and I started Sept 14, great results. Now on to P90X2. If you are self disciplined and sick of the gym stuff its the stuff.

Does anyone have used P90X DVDs they want to sell?
I've been to La Ventana a few times, including January. It rarely blows for 7 straight days.... If it does it's usually light for a few of them.
You'll be fine.

Thanks everybody! I think wind sports take too much effort - what do the airlines charge for a three person wave-runner to La Paz? I have a big bag for it that says, Golf.
