I've got a board packed in a 56x19x3 box. United says its ok to bring a wakeboard (presumably of any size):

But it uses different text around kiteboards:

And I've come across tighter restrictions around "linear" dimensions exceeding 62 inches. Anyone have any experience with United around a boxed kiteboard?

Kiteboard? What's a kiteboard? It sounds to me, after reading the links, like you have a wakeboard and a tent perhaps? Just be damn sure and stay under 50 pounds. Remember, your gear may weigh a bit more on the return leg. It's hard to dry a "tent" completely in the humid tropics.

Yes -> Its a wakeboard, skim board, or a snowboard... its not a kiteboard

Make sure you bring a printout of the rules too =o)

Update: this worked well. On the origin side, they definitely were prepared to charge me and had to read the guidelines I had printed out a couple of times AND open up the box to verify there was indeed a "wakeboard". No questions asked on the destination side.
