I need to go to florida for work soon. I'll be a bit over an hour north of Tampa on Gulf coast. any good places from Tampa St Pete to about 2 hours north? I think I read the islands off Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs area have some (relatively) good spots. anyone have any experience? sure would be a nice diversion on a work trip.

Dunedin Causeway has waves and flat water. Great place to kite. Fort DeSoto is further South, but a great scene down there. Florida is a great place to kite. If you can get to The Keys do not hesitate. Perfect...

Dre,

that's nothing compared to what is coming down the pike the next 8 days........

Tman,

you'll have no choice but to hit the skyway or desoto on east wind days, west winds days you are all set up by dunedin as lek said.

East Winds all week! Time to shake off some rust!

If your in the area, and not really sure where to go, I'd say to hit the Skyway it has 3 launches that make it ride able in any wind direction. Its nice flat, shallow water Smile

thanks for the help. Dunedin's probably the most realistic and fort desoto's probably just as easy timewise even though it's a bit further south....

seems like east winds are the exception, winds normally west in winter is what it looks like.

Just one launch area at Dunedin at SW part of honeymoon/dunedin? sounds like most kiting at Dunedin is along the south part of causeway and/or SW part of island?

realistically it's mid december or later when I can go...so dec-feb time frame.

thanks again!

Lassing Park and North Shore Park near downtown St. Petersburg are also excellent on E winds. North county has Sunset Beach, Fred Howard Park, Honeymoon Island Park, Green Key, and 20+ mile Gulf Downwinders with trolley ride back up.

Here's more info, launch sites guide, and guidelines for the Tampa Bay area- www.kiteboardingtampabay.com
(zoom in on the Google map for more detailed info about each launch site)

Cable park is about an hour away from Dunedin for no-wind days

Hit me up for more info or if you're lookin' for people to ride with (813) 389-3683
