Get a surfboard and cut your teeth on nat. There are plenty of those out there for cheap, or go to the local shop and get a used or consigned board for much cheaper. Depends on the "budget" your referring to but 650 is some serious cheese. My first board, which is still nice wasn't even 2 bills. _________________ Take the red pill... |

Oldie but a goodie. Ono Hammersurf 158 I think. It actually might even be bigger. They also made the more common 148 Ono. They stopped making the stuff in like '05. I think gorge preformance has one. You should be able to get it on the cheap. Good wave riding board as it has tons of rocker. |

I'm 6'6" 225lbs, I started on a 2006 cabrinha prodigy 158x41cm (~$150) 4 months ago, I used it for a couple months and then moved to a 2007 Underground 148x46cm (~$300). I don't know if it was gaining skill or the board, but once I switched to the Underground I started going upwind like a banshee! I really like the artwork on the Undergrounds, you might check them out if you can find one.
For beginning, you probably can't go wrong with either board. |

There's an liquid force proof 151 in the classifieds for cheap. It's an alright board, price is right, I think you'd be ok on it. Season is mostly cashed, if you aren't going on a kite trip you might just sit and wait see what pops up. |
