Wed Sep 28, 11 4:09 pm Oregon Coast/ South wind- Floras Lake vs Ponds |
|
|
I have a few days to hit either the South or North Coast. We were hoping to hit some flat water and mix in some waves if the swell is not too big. What spot has better flat water in the South winds- Floras or the Ponds. Prior to kiting, I windsurfed Floras in some South winds and remember it being gusty but doable. There were several kites out in the South wind then and appeared to be doing fine.
So if the swell is 15ft with a South wind in the South, and we are thinking Whiskey Run is too much, will Floras still be worth the drive? The other option is to mix in the Northern beaches with the Ponds if it's victory at sea.
Last chance this season for me to catch some wind and need to make the most of it.

I know that it can be done. I believe SW is optimal as it gets into the bay, vs get south wind. High tide is best as there is more water acreage. However, SW wind comes in Fall and Winter when there are lots and lots of boats with crab pots, and people fishing for salmon. . .
