Mon Aug 29, 11 4:54 pm Ocean Rodeo Mako question |
|
|
Hi,
Just purchased the 2011 OR Mako 140 after demoing it for two days. Love the board, especially when I got the hang of boosting it. Do you ride it with one fin on each end or do you use the thruster option on one end? I rode it with one and one. How does the thruster option change the dynamics of the board? Also, any tips for maximum boostability?
Thanks,
JP |

Go downwind and pick up as much speed as you can, turn upwind while using both feet and engage the whole rail, not just the back foot, as in a traditional twintip, to build tension in the lines, then Ollie pop with the right timing with the kite. |

Mines an 09 140 and didn't come with a thruster just the middle fin at each end . What is the point of the thruster on the twin ? Is it a surfboard then ?! I know going down a wave face you better keep the tip up or a face plant is coming thruster or not . Does this 2011 model have a front with a raised tip like a surf board ? I'm trying to see what the point is as it stops on a dime and carves hard as it is with the concave and centre fins .
I suppose youll find out trying this set up . I like the way they eat chop and smooth things out .

So will the mutant thruster set up give one better pop ability or is this simply for more carving grip?

it gives it more grip in the turn one direction but it gives it too much grip, can not slide it at all on the swell and makes landings trickier... a better option for me seems to be switching the fin out for a Mako King surf fin. better grip but not too sticky. |

If anyone knows of a Mako (140 or 150) for sale second hand, please PM me. After a lifetime of board sports my 62 y o knees have recently really begun hurting constantly while kiting. Had a Mako last year that got robbed from my garage storage in Tacoma. I found that the even steady leg pressure to both knees was more forgiving, and allowed me more T.O.W.

Kip....if you're thinking Mako you should come try out my King (165x45)....or demo one from Windance. I ride it mutant and its the best chop absorbing board I've ridden. Smooth...easy on the knees....and a lite wind killer. I rode Fuse's 149" and 151" and they were also a lot of fun...but not as smooth when landing in funky chop. Also, any newb is up and riding this board day 1 so it's a solid trainer board for friends etc.
For your knees.....think about using NSI double stuffs pads....they help add the cush your knees crave for longer sessions......plus you can still walk to the bar afterwards. |

Thanks Sella,
But as to the King, I already have a directional that I love and it's kind to my knees. I'll look into the soft NSI pads for the TT. Need to resolve this before I leave for my month in Brazil :) Kip _________________ CGKA Member
