Heading up for a week of work in Anchorage and am finally going to bring my kites. Anybody have any experiences there?

its been good almost everyday the last few weeks from lit on a 6m to light with a 14m. Downwinders in the waves or sick butter water BUT you better like washing mud off of your kites.

You would do well to contact Tom at http://alaskakiteadventures.com/Alaska_Kite_Adventures/AKA.html.
Tell him Les sent you. He teaches lessons at 20 Mile River, towards the end of the arm, and he'll know the best places to launch, plus what hazards to watch for. Tides are over 30' each day, second only to Bay of Fundy. Bore tide is fun: http://www.ktuu.com/gotoak/ktuu-surfers-ride-alaskas-extreme-bore-tide-20110523,0,4248355.story

If the wind dies and tide goes out, you'll go with it out to sea, unless of course you have a buddy with a float plane who can rescue you, which actually happened a few years back.

Thanks man, I got out last night for a short session. Wind dropped off suddenly so I didn't get as much time as I would've liked, but what an AMAZING place to kite. Can't wait to get out again tonight!!

Missed the belugas today, but was lit on my 9m for a couple hours. This is one of the local spots that seems like about a square mile of kiddie pool goodness. Sorry for the pic, but was too busy riding.

If you're going to AK, pack your kites, this is the promise land. Hundreds of square miles of fan smooth winds and the local crew goes out of their way to make you feel like home. It may sound like blasphemy, but I've kited SPI and Hatteras and I'll take AK all day long. STOKED!

Vcoug,
Glad you had a good time, sorry we didn't hook up but sounds like the guys dialed you in. Much more potential than you got so hopefully you'll be back. I too have been to Oahu, SPI and Maui and I have to say our roadside kiting is excellent. Unfortunately we have mud sometimes. See you next time.

Yep, that was the night you missed. Thanks, yep I am 7 of 21 and 21 of 21 in those pics. The Front Cover shot is Tom Fredricks from AlaskaKiteAdventures.com. Also, looks like I
won't be getting down there this week. Maybe another time.
