I have not tried/used those straps, BUT, I am going to suggest another brand. I am not affiliated, but a friend of mine uses the Inno locking surfboard rack for his SUP on the roof of his car:

The website is kind of shitty, but the rack looks to be pretty burly. He leaves his SUP on his car all the time and has not had an issue yet (sounds like the FAA). I would suggest you at least take a look at these.
