I took my first kite trip to Cape Hatteras last spring. It was fantastic. Can't wait to go again. I made some new friends and want them to know we are thinking of our fellow kite community there as they experience Hurricane Irene. I hope all is still standing, not too damaged and everyone is safe.
This is for you!

from what Ive heard mainly just flooding. My friend took that picture cruising down highway 12 on his ski. 32 ft @14 sec swells and 70 mph sustained winds.
se winds pushed all the sound water west to where you could see the bottom of the sound. then west wind pushed it all back.
real watersports backyard is generally 5 - 6 ft above sound level. it was underwater with waves breaking right up next to the back deck
