Tide looks good.? Pressure is rising. I'm packing my 20mtr and some beers. Jones is nuked right now so I'm thinking it might roll this way?
edit... 2 minutes later...pressure rose all the way back down to zero. Jones went to .07!

Disappointment, "gust surfing", followed by beer and good wind just as you pop and are packing up Smile

From downtown Portland, if you can get out early enough, Stevenson is just about as close... And, much more consistently windy and forecastable... Heck, if your really into kiting... move to the eastside and now it becomes about a 30 minute drive.

Blower 18 WSW... RIGHT NOW!

I personally gave up on Sauvie about five years ago...

Pappas, I'm crying inside right now. We moved here sight unseen a year and a half ago, and settled on Beaverton because it was right between the ocean and the gorge/Mt. Hood.

Like stupid Californian's we didn't know that the coast was freezing and we should have just started on the east side. Closer to kiting in the summer and skiing in the winter.

Now my 4 year old has friends, blah blah blah, and I think I'm stuck for a while...

Break free man! At 4 he will have new friends in two days and BeaverHELL will be a fleeting memory. Meanwhile you will have your kiting, skiing, and general sanity back.

Weigh the consequences... A four year old in agony for two days, or you in agony for years... years, and years!

West side is closer to Jones, which typically has great wind, no crowds, huge easy launch access, and a fat butter area.

Jones from the west side still take longer to get to than Stevenson does from the east side (depending on traffic), and Stevenson does seem to have the smoothest most reliable wind, but the access at Stevenson can be a little crowded and it's always kinda sketch.

Where is the "large butter area" at Jones? I'm always in the voodoo chop.

It's called "Nuclear alley" you cut across the river to the washington shore and go upwind around the corner of the island. You will find some nice shallow areas with grass growing on the edges. The wind is super steady and usually a little stronger than it is from the OR shore. Takes about 20 minutes to work across and upwind to it. Your legs will be a little tired getting there but it's so juicy you will quickly forget about that. Or you can just stop in the shallows for a minute and rest.

"Ponds" is Ft. Stevens parking lot D, south side.

Jeez I called that right. And it came up nice within 5 minutes of me popping my kite and packing to head out.

Hope the faithful got some goods last nite

The forecast for today is better. Hopefully I will get a good practice session in. I need to get the F-16 dialed and start working on back-to-wrapped.

FOr all things Sauvie I would definitely heed the advice of Steve Dunes. He's like a walking meteorological station for that area.

An example as he told me on wens (when we all got about a total of 12 low powered tacks in in about 3 hours). "If its windy, but the cottonwoods are showing white on the right hand side of the road on the drive in.... there is too much west and it won't likely be good"

I thought.. christ man, this guy is paying attention!

The forecast looks good but I certainly don't see any wind in NE p-town.

On wens it was blowing 13 at the fremont, 20 in ridgefield, 19 at the airport, and 14 in st. helens... and about 6 at the island. Its fllukey at best.
