PostSun Jul 24, 11 12:13 pm    Bridge of The Gods 2011 - UPDATE Saturday AM Reply with quote

Just under 1 week until this years Bridge of The Gods Kiteboarding Festival! August 19th and 20th, 2011 are the days for this year's event. (Sunday, August 21st is a backup day in case of no wind). Entry fee is $65.00 for non CGKA members, $55.00 for CGKA members.

Schedule:

Friday August 19th: Past Winners / Sponsored Riders: 12:00 PM Riders Meeting. 1:00 PM First Heat. (order to be determined at the riders meeting.) Men's & Women's heats.

Saturday August 20th: Amateurs: 10:00 AM Riders Meeting. 11:00 a.m. First possible Heat. (order to be determined at the riders meeting.) Men, Women, Juniors, Groms, Masters.

Registration is from 1100 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on Friday and from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday.

Full details here: http://www.botgkitefest.com/events.htm

Categories:

Groms - 11 and under (boys & girls together)
Juniors - 12 to 16 (boys & girls together unless minimum of 4 girls to form a heat)
Men - 17 plus
Women Competitors- 17 plus
Women Fun Riders - 17 plus
Masters - 40+ (Men & Women combined)

Competition format:

The last couple of years there have been questions and comments about past winners and sponsored riders competing in the event. Considering that BOTG has always been billed as an Amateur event here's what we've decided:

Friday, August 19th: Past BOTG Winners and Pro/Semi-Pro Team Riders, (1st Place in any previous BOTG category except Groms/Juniors, Masters)– Judged comp and trophy’s, Walking Man Growlers but no cash or gear prizes. I'd love to see Joe Ruscito, Alex Fox, Reed Brady, Ben Chambers, and all of the other past winners show up for this and put on an awesome show for the crowd.

Saturday August 20th: Amateur Comp: Groms, Juniors, Mens, Womens, Masters: open to anyone who hasn't taken 1st place in a previous BOTG category (groms/juniors excepted - they can move up) - Cash, trophy's, trip, gear

In the event of no wind we'll have a SUP Relay Race open to all, thinking maybe a brand v brand team event for bragging rights (this will depend on the crowd and the temperature!)

The Stevenson Eagles will be hosting a Beer Garden featuring Walking Man and Kona Beer. Food will be provided by Papas Dogs and El Casa De Sabor. We'll have beverages and other snacks available as well.

Prizes! Prizes! we got your Prizes!!! BOTG is looking GREAT!

Still nailing down the prizes and sponsors but we've got three or four boards, a kite or two, potentially a trip, and various other goodies to go along with the CASH prizes.

Prize info is changing daily as vendors and sponsors get back to us. Haven't figured out the distribution yet but it will be pretty sweet.

And then there's the entry fee pool to distribute:

Calculations below based on 50 people signing up. The percentages wont change but the final dollar amount will be based on the total number of entries.

Distribution
M1 20% $500.00
M2 15% $375.00
M3 7% $175.00
W1 15% $375.00
W2 10% $250.00
W3 6% $150.00
OG1 5% $125.00
OG2 4% $100.00
OG3 3% $75.00
J1 5% $125.00
J2 4% $100.00
J3 2% $50.00
Grom 1 2% $50.00
WFun 1 2% $50.00

100% $2,500.00

* Entry fee is $65 for non-CGKA members, $55 for CGKA members

See the complete list of sponsors at www.botgkitefest.com

Thanks for reading through all that and I appreciate any constructive criticism or suggestions for helping keep this one of the funnest, most awesome events in the country.

Tony

ps: I'd really appreciate it if someone could put a post on PSKite, kiteboardbc, and any of the other West Coast forums for me and link it back to here.

Sticky please!

I hope to make it down this year (as a spectator, unless you could please create an "Over 60 Lawn Mower" division Smile)

Will the Tiki Hut evening event also take place?
Kip

Maybe on the Tiki hut. Lots of work going on at the place this year. Replacing the pool liner, pouring some concrete, changing out a water line, etc... May just have to do the BBQ at the fairgrounds. We'll know more in a couple of weeks how that part will shake out.

We can do an over 60 lawn mower division! Or just about any other category like girls in capes, water wings class, or goofy hats! Maybe Friday afternoon for the expression session.

Just received our first box of stuff for the gear prize pool!

We're getting great response and commitment of stuff but Dimitri at EPIC kites was first out the door to ship us something and we have in hand a Screamer 7m kite and bar, stickers, hoodies and t-shirts!

Pretty sick looking kite and the perfect size for the gorge! Check it out here:

Thanks again to EPIC for contributing - you guys rock!

BOTG update....

Jay We would love to have you film again. This years event is looking good. We have some great stuff.

Best donate a Profanity board
Cabrinha donated a Custom board
Epic donate a kite
Palapas Ventanas donate 3 nights lodging in La Ventana

That's the current short list and we're know there is more coming. Sorry if I missed your name, this is my quick list. I'm starting to organize the logos for the shirts so send me your info so you make the t-shirt as a sponsor.

Tiki Party is going to be moved to the fairgrounds for the Saturday night party which is starting to take shape. We have camping at the fairgrounds and we're working on a band. They'll be some fire dancing for sure and some happy winners! We'll set up a projector and screen and watch the videos and pics.

Sunday - We're working on the BOTG Blow-out Stevie to HR. Let us know if you're interested.

So we have some awesome swag, and we hope everyone can make it. Wind has been great in Stevenson and we look forward to everyone coming out.

I will be going to view it for the first time this year. I will be catching the Friday event. When should spectators show up and where is the best place to Park? Will I be able to park close to the spectator spot?

Anytime after noon should have something happening as long as we have wind. It's pretty low key and fun on Friday with photographers shooting and riders showing off.

Plenty of parking to the west of kite beach in the big parking lot and along the waterfront, all within 100 feet to about a five minute walk maximum. Skateboards make great transportation for cruising up and down the waterfront and the parking lot.

PostSat Aug 20, 11 8:16 am    SATURDAY UPDATE Reply with quote

East winds are picking up and may build enough to allow us to hold the Groms and Junior heats today. If we get sustained winds of 18 or or so we will ride today.

West winds will be coming in late on Sunday afternoon so we will have heats happening but they may be 7 minutes long instead of 10.

We will not be able to have the Blowout race to HR.

Come on down to the site as we've got music, give aways, food, beer and some awesome riders on the water.

Hope to see you there!
