Wed Aug 17, 11 8:10 pm Why are some Bozos so unhappy even on such a great day? |

I was riding Stevie today, what a great day. Fan steady 25 mph winds from 2 till 4. for an hour of that, I was the only kiter on the river. Decided to head upwind just to mix it up after the first hour. About a dozen windsurfers out. I gave all of them a pretty wide berth and stayed at least 300m away from Bob's beach. It's a big river, no need to crowd anybody. I passed about 50m downwind of a windsurfer who was yelling something at me. (All the windsurfers but him smiled and waved back when I waved. ) I figured he wanted something so I swung closer to him, about 20m downwind. He was screaming "Starboard" at me.
I damn near died laughing at this guy. It really, really baffles me. Why are some idiots so unhappy that they have to try and create conflict at any cost? Man, if kiteboarding made me that unhappy, I'd quit it in a heartbeat. I harbor no ill will towards this guy, and I certainly don't equate his mindset with the vast majority of stoked windsurfers. I really feel sorry for him though.
Anyways, what a great day! |

ya know, when i hear stories like this i always think that i've never heard anyone say "i used to kiteboard". cant say that about windsurfing. Maybe we are just happier with our choice. |

Similar experience for me last week between the Event Site and the Hook.
I kited close to the Oregon shore and gybed between 2 windsurfers. One was downwind and the other was upwind of me.
The one who was downwind of me was slogging and as I passed about 50 feet above him, I lifted my kite up into the air so he would not get nervous. My lines were at least 30 feet away from his mast.
The other windsurfer upwind from me started chasing me and yelling at me. His face was all red and he was spewing spittle as he yelled at me. All I could make out was "downwind" , "where you're supposed to be". I stopped and sat down in the water hoping he'd come back and explain what I was doing wrong. No such luck.
The dude ruined my sesh. Harshed my mellow. |

Ha, those are the guys I hunt down, jump over, and then offer to train their windsurfing gear how to loop! Suckers need to realize that a large percentage of us "kiters" still sail, and can sail them into the ground... Albeit, I have not hucked a forward since about two years ago on Maui!
Be happy, go left, go right, and catch some occasional air...

haha we have one of those too. The man is physically unable to smile and have a nice time. He'd rather sit in a wave and get thrashed by the sets than share the wave. He has gone after kiters and actually other windsurfers. I really think he forgets that his car is parked beside other water users.
I just smile. |

Actually, Nak-Attack, do you remember when you use to pole dance?
I remember towards the end of my pole days, watching the new kiteboarders rippin' it up, while I had to be satisfied with super G jibes and 6 foot chop hops.
Man was I irritated to be stuck on the surface.
Sounds like Mr. Disgruntled is just about ready to come to the dark side .
Sometimes, I wonder why my fellow kiters at SI complain about the wind, albeit not the most wonderful, you can still have fun out on the River with the right equipment. (Look me up at SI on a 10-25 kind of day and you can try my new gen Speed3 12M out. Soooo much fun, easy relaunch, huge boosts that rip you off the water, and complete depower all in the bar.)
Me out,

sick 4.5m RPM swell riding last saturday
a bit crowded at times but everyone was having fun - was surfing a nice one but got froggered out by two windsurfers coming from opposite directions - no biggee just stopped, let em go by
fell off my board - chill for a second - see another windsurfer bearing down on me - make eye contact - the guy does a 3ft jump at me - casually move my head to the other shoulder as he rockets by - give him the wtf look - he shruggs
60 seconds later i was upwind of him - clear shot to bounce my trainer kite off his head
lesson from thunderdome - falling is for roadkill _________________ Go Deep!

G-man, I think things would have gone down a bit differently if those windsurfers had known that you were the infamous "Homicidal Maniac". |

I get shit looks all the time from WSers. I keep smiling and flashing the hang loose sign. I figure they are pissed because it is obvious we are having more fun. We're more nimble, happy, jump higher, do cooler moves, and can handle gusts better. Kite envy for sure. Maybe they'll get so mad they'll quit? They'll be six feet under soon anyways..... Poor angry windsurfers...... _________________ Gun control means hitting the bulls eye... |

Normally your posts make me shake my head a bit Blokt, but you hit it out of the park on this one! I wonder if the guy giving Nak grief was schlogging at the time? I was out windsurfing at the Hatch the other day schlogging downwind because I made the foolish mistake of rigging half a meter too small (I'm such an idiot). I was asking myself why I still do the sport, meanwhile some dude in an 80s wetsuit on a Vegas was throwing some of the biggest kiteloops I've ever seen that weren't on youtube. If I saw someone having that much fun and knew I couldn't do it I'd be pissed too! |
