Blowout race from Stevenson to Hood River - Sunday, August 21, 2011, day 3 of the BOTG Kite Festival. It's official, it's insured, it's on!

Approximately 1:00 p.m. start. Skippers meeting at noon.

Cost will be $20.00 per person, paid the day of the race. $5.00 goes towards lunch at Big Papas at the event site, $10.00 goes towards prizes, $5.00 goes towards insurance. If we get at least 20 people signing up we will have a directional board as a grand prize.

I've come up with a new insurance package for the Bridge of The Gods Kiteboarding Festival that will allow us to hold multiple events throughout the year. As such we want to hold an official race with prizes and support.

As long as we get the main event off on Friday and Saturday we will hold the downwind race on Sunday. Otherwise, Sunday is the backup day for the freestyle competition.

Here's what needs to happen:

- I need boat or jet ski support. Two would be best. We can pay for the gas.
- I need at least two volunteers to help with the finish.
- I need a launch / start coordinator.
- I need a Hwy 14 rover / pick up car

As we've said before, this is a RACE, not a leisurely cruise with personal escort service. You need to be very competent and comfortable with self rescue.

We had a lot of fun a few weeks ago with the drop-in race. Looking forward to running it again with a whole lot more participation. This could be the last event of the year so come on out and make the run!

bump...

Trying to gauge interest in this. So far only 5 or 6 people have said they're in. Need at least a dozen to make it worthwhile. It's a fun race!

I know of at least 3-4 that are planning to make it. Should be easy to get 12+ riders. Hopefully we'll get the volunteers needed.
