From Katu: HOOD RIVER, Ore. - Three kite boarders are recovering after they were seriously injured on the Columbia River.
The incident happened Friday in Hood River. All three were hospitalized, including one who had to be airlifted to OHSU. One of the victims is just 17 years old.
Rescuers say two of the victims were doing flips on a ramp in the water and landed head first. They suffered serious spine injuries. _________________ The CGKA is your advocate for Kiteboarding in the Gorge! Join now for just $10!

I dont know what happened to the other two but one was an old guy so I dont think it was off the sliders, and Theo did a railey and never got his feet under him, landed on his head in shallow water. _________________ I heart dangling |

I only have concrete information on the kiter that appeared to have suffered the least injury. He was an older guy that had been sent downwind into the sand bar as he was trying to get out to kite. His injuries seemed to be limited to a separated shoulder and a possible break of the humeral head and/or clavicle. The other two injuries sound much more severe including some spinal injuries; one from a kiter in the Hood River around the rails, and another possibly riding a skim board in the kiddie ponds.
I helped, with others, get the older guy to the grass where paramedics took him off to the hospital. Keep your positive thoughts heading the way of the two younger kiters that have the more serious of the injuries. _________________ too much of anything is just enough |
