Fri Aug 12, 11 8:18 am OT: T-mobile Cell Coverage |
|
|
I'm thinking of changing from AT&T to T-Mobile. Anybody else done this recently? How do you T-mobile users find the Voice & High speed Data coverage through the Gorge, on both sides of the river, and the coast? I know AT&T and T-mobile are going to merge eventually, thought I'd get grandfathered in to the better rates at T-mobile...
Any help at all with T-mobile experience would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! |

Hey Nak, I've had T-mobile for the better part of 10 years and am pretty satisfied with them. You don't have the same range that you'd get with Verizon, but from what I understand it's pretty similar to AT&T's coverage, only without as many dropped calls.
On the Oregon side, you'll have service all the way up 84 from Portland to Hood River, and will lose it on the Washington side from Washougal to Stevenson (though if you need to make a quick call around the dam you can). Coverage at the Stevenson launch is flawless. From there, you'll bit hit and miss at best from Stevie to White Salmon. |

Thanks! What about Coastal coverage, en-route and on location?

We were on T-Mobile for about 7 years. Switched to Verizon last September and get much better coverage around Stevie and out in the boonies where some of our projects are.
TMobile is good in the more populated areas but seems to lose coverage a bit quicker than Verizon when we get out in boonies.

Thanks WestBeach and Tony! That does help.
Sounds like coverage is quite a bit less than AT&T.
I wonder how long after the merger before coverage is merged? Data will be a problem, they use different 3G radio frequencies... |

Yeah Hwy 30 to Astoria you'll only have service in Clatskanie. Service at Parking lots B and D, but not at shipwreck. Full service at Manzo and Siletz. Not sure about Road's end or further south. Not sure about Sunset. HOpe it helps!!
PS--full service at Floras as well. |

I have t mobile and get service everywhere i need it pretty much. T-mobile seems to be cheaper than others as well. Verizon gets the best coverage but is kinda spendy. _________________ I heart dangling |

I spend most of my time at SI and Jones these days. Coverage is spotty over the entire island.
You can occasionally get a signal through at Jones but it's spotty at best.
I haven't noticed any issues with coverage all the way out to hood river though I don't do that trip often.
Cell coverage extends down 26 to seaside. Beyond that I don't really know. I remember sending texts from parkinglot's B and D last time I was there so they must be at least partially covered.
I agree with the previous poster. You will have coverage in any decently populated area. In the boonies though coverage is a crap-shoot. I have had T-mobile for years and it has been fine for me 99% of the time. It's only since I started kiting and going to more remote locations that I even noticed times when I didn't have coverage. _________________ Captain kook; always wrong. |
