Hey everyone, first post an all that, got me my first kite (10m Slingshot Key) and a trainer (thanks Marc) and before I jump in with a formal water lesson I wanted to get as far ahead of the game as possible, flying my trainer (2m Naish Xeon) and watching some videos. I can't seem to find anything on the web, any suggestions or links you guys have to get somebody started?
Thanks. |

The progression DVD's are pretty good. They have a beginner one. I have the intermediate vol. 1 DVD and to be honest it's quite repetitive so you will be doing a fair bit of fast-forwarding and coming back at a later date to review specific details but I found it quite useful. They have some of the progression DVD's at Gorge Performance, probably other kite shops too.
Progression also has a YouTube channel so you can see some of their little promo videos there. http://www.youtube.com/user/learnwithprogression _________________ Captain kook; always wrong. |

Another vote for the Progression DVD's... I have the beginner one, and found it really helpful when it came time for the water lesson. Make sure you can fly the kite one handed before your water lesson, and have a good idea how to do power strokes. |

a local seattle kiter, zach price, has come up with an innovative instructional app for your phone.
check out his website for more info on this. what's great, other than being able to use on iPhone or Android phones, is the ability to go step by step through whatever it is you are working on.
he currently has two different levels available. the advanced level is in the works.

Most of those were caused or at least made possible by the guys being over powered. So if you take some good lessons and keep an eye out for what size kite the other people are riding you shouldn't have to worry about that stuff.
The one where the guy got picked up for a minute or so and was just hanging from his kite happened because he got caught in an updraft/thermal. See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dd8vT1KR4RE&feature=player_detailpage#t=06s
The one that was all rainy where the guy got dragged into the building happened because he was kiting after a hurricane if I remember correctly. Ah here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUsNHredaIw
The rest of them can be avoided if you are careful, stay well into the water when you are throwing tricks, and don't go out overpowered. _________________ Captain kook; always wrong. |

Ha... I was there for the guy at 16 seconds in. Don't remember his name, but he was from New Zealand, crazy as hell, and as tough as nails. For about ten seconds we thought it was hospital time, until he pops up and goes and does it again... this time clearing it by a country mile.
Also, Erik Eck at 1:35 is a friend from Oahu!!!
