Thanks for the rescue, M Ryan....
It would have been a super long swim from way out there in the channel. And, given the fact, that I didn't seem to be making any progress, I'd probably still be out there.
Thanks again. Next time, I see you, I'll take you out for a beer or six.
And, thanks Matt for the ride back in the wave runner from Wells Island.
Good Karma all around.

Glad to hear of your safe return. I had seen a guy on Friday in the channel I was hoping to help out and he thought he was fine. He was gathered with his gear and had a partially deflated kite and worse of all no life jacket and didn't think he needed help. I was going to go get an instructor with jet ski to help him. He was moving down river fairly quickly. Luckily there was many experienced riders out and someone apparantly made 2 trips to get him and his gear in. My windsurfer friend has brought in several kiteboarders this year and always gets his free IPA Fullsail brought to him to show appreciation. There isn't much I could do as a beginner especially when this guy seemed to not want to lose his gear. I for one would easily pitch my gear and swim for Washington and walk or hitchhike back. I'm glad there is quite the strong community of people there to help in these kind of situations, but definately beginners need to take precautions and for me it is definately wear a life jacket and be prepared to swim. |
