That's where I'm from! Chicagokitesurfing.com & mackiteboarding.com are great places to get info and local kite forum. Usually light wind around this time of year, places like Muskegon, MI get a good thermal bump on a sunny north wind day. Little Sable Point, MI on a sunny South wind day. Usually less wind around the southern parts, South Haven & St. Joe. Have fun! |

Agree with Andy except Little Sable Point works awesome on sunny day with S-SW flow,Muskegon works great on NW,forget other places unless there's big front coming in.Its summer,we need a thermal in this time of year, hope you gonna have a awesome trip..

I've read all of the relevent posting on the Chicago forum. Man, you have to become an expert in thermals. What's the deal with this "thermal block" at the south end of the lake. Seems complicated.
I've heard of Muskegon and Sable Point, but won't be able to get up there. I'm going to be in the Holland/Saugatuck area with family. I'm reading this area is on the fringe of this "thermal block" and will only be kiteable on North winds, when the water is cold. Am I reading this right?
I'm also hearing I need big kites and that some folks put 4m extensions on there 27m lines. Phoa! Not sure if I'm up for all that on a short trip. Will a 13m and 9.5m with 27m lines be ok for the Saugatuck area? |
