Yeah-ya!  .... appoximately 1 year before this, I score my first kite: the Naish AR3.5 9M (2 line death in a box.) 
After some modest success, I finally step up to the Naish AR5 13.5M 4 line....
By '01 I am throwing tables like Robby himself!

Got my start on the Ottawa river in Canada in 2000 or 2001.
(not HR I know, but hillarious never the less)
Gear:
Wipika Free air 8.5m
Wakeboard with boots
no harness, but we had a wrist leash!
bar lenth = about 6'
Session:
hot launch, ride out as far as you can, try to transition, crash, don't let go of the bar (ever), pull in tagled mess of kite + lines, swim to shore, walk upwind, detangle lines and pass the bar to the next guy for his 'turn'
Awesome.

-windsurf harness
-double up wake with added fins on heelside
