I just moved to Hood River this summer! I spent the last few winters in Utah, skiing pow lines everyday and now my adventurous spirit has me determined to learn how to kite board this summer. I just graduated college and moved out here and don't have a lot of extra cash to spare. I would be very appreciative of any suggestions on where I can find cheap women's equipment (wet suit, kite, board, lines, ect.). I am also looking for a trainer kite I could possibly borrow, I have taken a few lessons, and am just trying body dragging and self rescuing now. I am willing to trade and help out in anyway for any kind of kite help!!

If you are at least semi-hot i think you will have no problem getting the boys to offer up plenty of help learning. Just show up to the spit and get your learning on!

Nothing like a heartfelt welcome to sausage-fest 2011.

Toetoegirl - Even if you don't have the cash, it might be worth your while to check in with some of the local kite schools to see if they might still be seeking volunteer students for them to use for any newly certified instructors still requiring shadow or training time. This is definitely not one of those sports that you trust a stranger to teach you for free.
OR
PM any of the gals on the forum to see if they might be interested in helping you out, or just give you some straight up pointers on how to get rolling the right way.

Bettyboarder, lauri, melokitegirl, or clairelush all are local gals with experience and knowledge that can be trusted. I'm pretty sure you could PM any of them and get some positive feedback.

Post some photos of yourself, hopefully you're hot, and all the sausage in HR will be all over you. If not, good luck.

Boys! Stop scaring away the young lasses. You all complain there are not enough ladies in this sport...gee I wonder why. Embrace your inner gentleman. Be the kind & courtious fella's I know you can be.

ToeToe: Welcome. Check out the posts about kite lessons. Learning from a friend is not advised. In the mean time. Go & watch to understand our launches & all the dynamics. Tons of safety issues. You may want to launch & land to assist. You will get more comfortable with the kite. Get to know people that way. Some people may bark - buts that's apart of being a newbie/kook.

Good Luck.
